Delta Six Lives On!  Westy enthusiasts know U.S. based Delta Six as the original manufacturer of many of the Westfalia designed camper parts found on your VW Camper, such as hook-up inlets, faucets, poptop skylight parts, and more. Alas, after Vanagon Westfalia production ended, Delta Six entered a long period of decline and neglect.  Although they halfheartedly continued to make replacement parts, they cut so many corners in product assembly and raw materials that the finished products no longer met original Westfalia specs. The tooling was old and tired, yet they would not invest in restoring it, and quality control was nonexistent. Even though the original Westfalia-Werke design and engineering was solid, it could not compensate for such poor execution. So while the original parts had typically lasted for decades, the replacements often failed much sooner.

All of this changed In 2010, when Delta Six / Euro American was finally rescued by Trevor Reid, a/k/a The Skylight Guy, who already produced poptop skylights for Westfalia campers. Westy owners and enthusiasts themselves, Trevor and Cheri appreciated the company's unique history and its value to the VW camper community, and restoring its product line became a labor of love. Drawing on Trevor's manufacturing experience, and partnering with the Bus Depot, they set about to bring Delta Six back to its former glory.  The original molds and tooling were painstakingly renewed to original factory specs - the first time in ages that serious money was invested in production quality. Then they set upon taking it to the next level, by improving on the original designs with modern materials and technology, while still maintaining the authentic factory look. Finally, they instituted a rigorous 100% quality control regimen to ensure that each piece is individually tested to meet (or even exceed) original factory specifications. The result is that current production - still entirely in North America - is actually better quality than what originally came on your Westy. So you get the best of both worlds - modern 21st century quality and design "under the hood," while maintaining a "stock" look from the outside since the original molds are still being used.

In 2015 the Bus Depot acquired Delta Six and the original molds and tooling, although production continues as it was (with Trevor's son now handling the bulk of it - a real family affair!). By leveraging our buying power on raw materials, we were able to reduce prices without any compromise whatsoever to the products themselves. So not only are the Delta Six products better than ever, they're also cheaper!

OEM Delta Six Poptop Skylights

Not all replacement skylights are the same.  Only OEM Delta Six skylights are made on the original factory molds and meet original factory specs.  The knockoffs may look similar but it’s only skin deep; there are major differences in quality and design.   Every aspect of the OEM design was the result of careful engineering. Of course a proper fit is important, but the exact thickness and composition of the material is just as crucial. The material must be strong yet pliable, because it is actually engineered to flex. In the event of any impact (from inside or outside the camper), it is intended to bend just enough to absorb the impact, rather than either crack or (worse yet!) transfer the force of the impact to the hinge points on the poptop and crack the poptop. Only the OEM skylights meet these strict specifications. The aftermarket skylights are more brittle. Even the best of them don’t fit as well with the stock hardware, don’t seal as well, and in the event of impact they are more likely to be damaged or even damage your poptop.

The original skylight had double-pane construction. This does improve insulation and is best for cold-weather camping, but it also doubles the cost. Since not everybody needs that additional insulation, we now offer OEM skylights on the original molds in both single-pane and dual-pane versions, so you can let your needs and budget be your guide. So now you can get a single-pane skylight at an aftermarket price that is still made on the original molds to original specs.  We even offer single-pane skylights in your choice of colors, so you can dress up your Westy or better match its paint.
