The special version we sell comes factory-programmed with modified firmware designed to monitor auto trans temperature on Eurovans and Winnebago Rialta campers, which the off-the-shelf version doesn't always read properly. (The special firmware does not prevent it from working properly on other vehicles, it is just an added feature.) Installation is simple; just plug it into your OBD II port (to the left of the radio on a 97-98 Eurovan or below the steering wheel on a 99-05) and find a place to mount it on your dash using the included velcro strips.
