Why is the Burley Motorsports Big Brake Kit better?

In a recent poll on the Syncro Facebook group, the Burley Motorsports kit was ranked the highest of the commercially available kits, with 50% more votes than the runner-up.  Why?

- Larger braking surface (288mm versus 275mm or less) - truly big brakes!
- Fewer modifications required
- Based on late model Audi parts

The last difference - availability of common wear items - can't be understated. Other kits use parts intended for European or South African market vehicles, and replacement wear parts may be almost completely unavailable in the U.S. For example, the kit sold by most Vanagon parts suppliers takes brake pads from an obscure 1980's German made Ford that was only sold for a couple of years in the U.S.. How long do you think replacement brake pads will stay available for that car, and what will you do when they're not? How about other components like calipers? What if the company that sold you the kit doesn't have the replacement parts in stock when you need them, or stops supporting the kit, or goes out of business? The Burley kit is designed in the U.S.. and the major wear components are from 2001 and newer U.S. market Audi's.

The kit includes...
- 282 mm drilled/slotted rotors
- New Single piston calipers
- Ceramic brake pads (semi-metallic on 2wd)
- New Hubs w/bearings, seals, and lock nuts (on 2WD only, not required for Syncro)
- Stainless steel dust/ventilation shields (not included with other kits)
- Stainless steel braided brake hoses directly from metal line to caliper (eliminating the original 3” curly Q section of hard line at the caliper).

Important Notes:
- This kit fits the most popular 15" or larger wheels, but not every possible wheel. Please email us to confirm fit. It will not fit any 14" wheels.
- On 1985 and earlier Vanagons, you will need to find 1986+ spindles to use the big brake kit. If you cannot find used ones email us, we may have some available (at additional cost).
- Caution, big brake kits require some mechanical expertise to install. Brakes are a safety item. If you're not sure you're up to it, have a professional install it. We are not responsible for problems due to improper installation.
