This cable goes directly from the speedo head to the road wheel, bypassing the inline "check EGR" warning box (which causes the EGR warning light on the dash to light up every 30k miles on gas-engined Vanagons). While the EGR warning box will still cause the EGR light to flash briefly when the ignition key is turned, it will no longer light up every 30k miles if this cable is used.
