This is an original Bosch distributor rebuilt by an independent specialist. (Bosch no longer makes or rebuilds these themselves.) This is the correct single vacuum advance distributor for the VW's shown below, with the proper advance curve (unlike a centifugal-advance, 009 style distributor). As a result your engine timing will be correct both at idle AND under load, which maximizes engine lifespan, performance, and gas mileage. Basically it's better for your engine and performs better as well.

CORE POLICY: In order to receive your core refund, you must return a distributor similar to this one (a Bosch single-vacuum-advance distributor from a 1974 or later Bug, Bus, Vanagon, Ghia, or Thing), with the vacuum canister) so it can be rebuilt for the next customer. We cannot accept a distributor with no vacuum port (such as an 009 style centrifugal advance distributor) for a core refund. The core will be checked and must be rebuildable so please allow at least 4 weeks for the refund.
